Vintage CLAUDIUS SIMOND Chamois No.3 Ice Axe
Made in France
This is a vintage wooden-shaft ice axe by CLAUDIUS SIMOND of Chamonix Mont-Blanc, France.
The head is stamped “CLAUDIUS SIMOND” and “CHAMONIX MONT-BLANC.”
It also has a “3” marking and a chamois-style animal logo, suggesting the Chamois No.3 model.
Chamois is a mountain animal found in the Alps, and it is a fitting symbol for classic alpine equipment.
The chamois-style logo gives this piece a strong old European mountaineering character.
The head length is approx. 25.5 cm, and the total length from the head to the spike tip is approx. 80 cm.
With its long wooden shaft, compact classic head, and Chamonix markings, this piece has a beautiful French alpine presence.
The stamped area appears to have been lightly sanded by a previous owner to make the markings easier to see.
Other areas retain natural age, patina, scratches, rust, stains, and signs of long-term storage.
