SKU: WHEATON-1932-MACHEN
Original Wheaton College Interdenominational Church bulletin for April 24, 1932, issued at Fischer Chapel in Blanchard Hall, Wheaton, Illinois.
This bulletin documents a significant moment in early twentieth-century American evangelical and fundamentalist history. The front page announces that Wheaton College president J. Oliver Buswell would preach the morning service while renowned Presbyterian theologian J. Gresham Machen would deliver the closing address for the League of Evangelical Students conference held on the Wheaton campus.
The bulletin also contains references to:
• J. Oliver Buswell, President of Wheaton College
• J. Gresham Machen of Westminster Theological Seminary
• League of Evangelical Students conference
• Rev. William Jones, teacher of Personal Evangelism
• A. W. Tozer, scheduled speaker at the Christian and Missionary Alliance convention
• Rev. L. F. Irish, missionary from Palestine
• Rev. C. B. Steiner, missionary to Peru
• Wheaton College Interdenominational Church
• Fischer Chapel, Blanchard Hall
Of particular interest is the appearance of Rev. William Jones in the bulletin. This example comes from the personal scrapbook and archive of William J. Jones (Wheaton College Class of 1925), later editor of the American Sunday School Union during the 1950s and 1960s. Jones later studied at Princeton, knew J. Gresham Machen, was a personal friend of Oswald T. Allis, and maintained lifelong ties to the Wheaton evangelical community.
An excellent piece of Wheaton College, Westminster Seminary, fundamentalist, evangelical, missionary, and American religious history.
Original folded church bulletin. Typical age toning, handling wear, and light creasing. Please examine photographs carefully for condition details.
