Description

Passenger train timetable from the former Seaboard Air Line (SAL) Railroad, dated December 16, 1961.
The SAL was a premier passenger and freight carrier, serving the area from Virginia through the Carolinas and Georgia into Florida and Alabama. It operated some of the most famous passenger trains (in conjuction with connecting railroads) between the Northeast and Florida cities. This timetable has listings for all passenger runs on the SAL, both famous named trains and local runs. Listings are by train number, with arrival/departure times for stations served.
The SAL was best known for its trains the "Silver Meteor", "Palmland", "Silver Comet", "Silver Star", "Sunland" and "Tidewater". Equipment manifests are provided for these trains, in addition to schedules, most of which were operated together with the New Haven, Pennsylvania, and Richmond Fredericksburg & Potomac railroads north of Richmond.
The timetable includes fare schedules for coach and pullman services; connections for trains operated by the New Haven, New York Central, Pennsylvania, Baltimore & Ohio, Chesapeake & Ohio, Boston & Albany, Norfolk & Western, Florida East Coast, and Richmond Fredericksburg & Potomac railroads. Schedules for connecting bus services are also provided.
The publication has a nice 2-page centerpage map showing the SAL system and connecting lines. There is also some great period railroad advertising.
This timetable measures appx 9x4 inches unopened and contains 46 pages. The cover is a medium-weight glossy paper stock, and the content pages are a quality matte paper. The timetable appears to have never been used and is in excellent condition, in spite of the fact that it is now almost 50 years old; it has no rips, tears, spills, smears, writing or markings.
A nice item for SAL railfans or timetable collectors.
