For auction is a rare passenger train timetable from the former Texas & Pacific Railway Company, the T&P. It is dated November 15, 1959.
The T&P was a regional railroad serving four states - Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas. It began operations in 1871, and the intention was to extend the line west to California; this never happened, however. The T&P ran generally along a route from New Orleans (LA) to near El Paso (TX), serving Shreveport (LA), Dallas and Fort Worth (TX), and southern Oklahoma, with a branch line extending into southeastern New Mexico. The Missouri Pacific Railroad (MP) gained control of the T&P through stock purchases in 1928, but the T&P operated separately until merged into the MP in 1976. The MP was eventually acquired by the Union Pacific (UP) in 1997 after years of legal wrangling. Surviving T&P trackage is now primarily operated by the UP.
This timetable lists all passenger trains operated over T&P lines. Listings are by train number, with arrival/departure times for cities served. The T&P operated four "named" trains, the Louisiana Eagle, Louisiana Daylight, South Texas Eagle, and the Westerner; schedules for these trains are included, and equipment manifests are provided. Local trains are also in the timetable. This publication has a nice map of the T&P system showing its trackage and lines of connecting railroads, and some great period advertising.
The timetable measures appx 9x4 inches unopened and opens to appx 16x9 inches. It is printed on medium-weight cardstock. It appears to have never been used and is in EXCELLENT CONDITION -- no rips or tears, spills or smears, writing or markings - unusual for something now over 50 years old!
