For auction is a 1967 passenger train timetable from the former Southern Railway. Southern, a dominant regional carrier in the US southeast, merged with the Norfolk & Western in 1982 to form Norfolk Southern.
This publication lists all passenger trains operated by Southern - local trains to include its famous named trains. As Southern had recently acquired the Central of Georgia Railway, it contains also the Central's passenger runs.
Southern ran the famous "Crescent" between Washington-Atlanta-New Orleans and also operated the "Southerner" along this route. The Central participated with other railroads in hauling the "City of Miami" between Chicago and Miami. Other named trains operated by Southern, usually with connecting carriers, included the "Seminole", "Peach Queen", "Carolina Special", "Birmingham Special", "Pelican", and "Pelican-Tennessean". The Central's primary train was the "Nancy Hanks" between Savannah and Atlanta and the "Man-O-War" between Atlanta and Columbus. Schedules are listed for all these trains, as well as other local trains then in service. Equipment manifests are provided for the major runs. There is a fare schedule that cites coach and pullman charges and a full-page map of the combined Southern/Central system. Lastly, the publication includes an index of passenger stations.
This timetable is in mint condition and appears to have never been used. It measures appx 9x4 inches, opens to appx 9x8 inches, and contains 16 pages; it is printed on glossy paper stock. It has no rips, tears, writing, markings, spills or smears.
