Description
The Reading Railroad was a mid-sized carrier in the Mid-Atlantic/Eastern states, serving Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland. Formed in 1833, it operated independently until 1976 when it, with other financially-troubled carriers, were merged into the government-owned Conrail system. Surviving lines of the Reading are now operated primarily by Norfolk Southern and CSX Transportation.
For auction is a passenger train timetable from the Reading. It is dated July 15, 1969 and covers train service between Philadelphia, Spring Garden Street, Temple University, North Broad Street, Tioga-Nicetown, and Wayne Junction. The service was run by the Reading for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA). Trains are listed by time of departure; there are separate listing for northbound and southbound services, along with weekdays, Saturdays, and Sundays-holidays.
The timetable, which measures appx 5 3/4 x 3 inches unopened and which opens to appx 19 1/2 x 5 3/4 inches, is in excellent condition. It is printed on medium-weight paperstock and has no rips, tears, writing, markings, spills or smears.
These older Reading timetables are true collectors items to be treasured by any Reading railfan.
