Description
The Penn Central Transportation Company, commonly called the Penn Central (PC), was an American railroad company that operated from 1968 until 1976. It was created by the merger in 1968 of two competing railroads, the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central Railroad, both of which were in considerable financial trouble. The New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad was added to the merger at the insistence of the Interstate Commerce Commission in 1969.
For auction is a passenger train timetable dated November 8, 1970 for its east/west passenger lines. Routes covered were (a) east/west via Pittsburgh to Chicago, St. Louis and Cincinnati; and (b) east/west via Buffalo to Cleveland and Chicago; as well as connections to Buffalo-Toronto and New York/Montreal. Listings are by run number, with arrival/departure times for stations served. There are equipment manifests and fare schedules.
