The Louisville & Nashville Railroad (L&N) was a major regional carrier that operated in the Southeastern US; it served the states of Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio and Tennessee. Its routes focused on Nashville (TN), but it also served Louisville (KY), Cincinnati (OH), Atlanta (GA), New Orleans (LA), and Birmingham (AL).
The L&N began operations in 1850 and operated continuously under one name until it was acquired in 1982 by the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad (SCL). While coal was its major commodity, the L&N also had extensive passenger train operations and its best known for its famous "named" trains -- Hummingbird, Pan American, Dixie Flyer, and Georgian.
For auction is a passenger train timetable dated Decemner 15, 1963. This timetable contains listings for all passenger trains operated over the L&N, famous "named' trains and local runs. Listings are by train number, with arrival/departure times for cities served. The L&N ran several prominent trains, to include the Humming Bird, the Dixie Flyer, and the Georgian; schedules are included for these runs with equipment manifests. There are tables showing fare schedules for coach and pullman services, a station list, and a great 2-page centerpage map showing the L&N system and connecting railroads. There is also some great period railroad advertising.
This timetable measures appx 9x4 inches unopened and contains 20 pages. The cover is printed on semi-glossy paper stock, and the content pages are a mid-grade paper. It appears to be unused and is in excellent condition- no rips, tears, writing, markings, smears or spills, and the binding is secure with all pages in plac.
