Description
For auction is a passenger train timetable from the former Chesapeake & Ohio Railway (C&O) and the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad (B&O). It is dated April 27, 1969. The C&O served the area from Newport News, VA and Washington, DC west to Chicago, IL and Louisville, KY and north into much of Michigan; it also served Ontario, Canada from Detroit, MI to Buffalo, NY. The C&O also operated a car ferry across Lake Michigan from Ludington, MI to points in Wisconsin. The C&O merged with the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad and the Western Maryland Railroad in the 1960s to form the Chessie System; its surviving trackage is now mostly owned and operated by CSX.
This timetable contains schedules for all trains operated by the C&O and the B&O, to include its famous named trains "The Capitol Limited", "The Diplomat", "The George Washington", "The Shenandoah", and "The Metropolitan". Equipment manifests are included. Listings are also provided for local trains and the Lake Michigan auto ferries. The timetable includes a map of the C&O/B&O system and fare schedules for coach and Pullman services. There are separate train listings for runs between (a) Baltimore-Washington-Pittsburgh-Youngstown-Akron-Toledo-Detroit-Cleveland; (b) Detroit-Lansing-Grand Rapids; (c) Detroit-Toledo-Dayton-Cincinnati; (d) Grand Rapids-Chicago; (e) New York-Baltimore-Washington-Norfolk-Hot Springs-White Sulphur Springs-Louisville-Detroit-Cincinnati-Chicago-St. Louis; (f) Ashland-Lexington-Louisville; (g) Ashland-Columbus-Toledo-Detroit; (h) Cincinnati-St. Louis; (i) Washington-Clarksburg-Parkersburg-Cincinnati; and (j) Baltimore-Washington-Cumberland-Harpers Ferry.
This timetable measures appx 9x4 inches unopened, 9x8 inches opened, and contains 8 pages; it is printed on a heavy-weight paperstock. The timetable appears to have had little if any use and is in excellent condition; there are no rips, tears, writing or markings, and the binding is secure with all pages firmly in place.
A nice addition to someone's C&O or B&O collection.
