The Benalla Football Club won their first-ever Ovens & Murray Football League (O&MFL) premiership in 1953, defeating Albury 8.10 (58) to 6.15 (51) in the grand final at Rutherglen's Barkly Park.
Coached by Norm Minns, the team broke Wangaratta's four-year stranglehold on the flag.
