The 103 series is a standard Japanese National Railways (JNR) commuter DC electric train, with mass production beginning in 1964 and over 3,400 units manufactured over more than 20 years. It operated on DC lines throughout Japan, and many variations exist depending on the manufacturing period and the lines used. A small number are still in operation today.
It's a familiar commuter train not only to railway enthusiasts but to many people even today.
With its easy-to-assemble set contents, it's recommended for beginners in model railroading or as a base for customizing to your liking.
By combining a 4-car train with two intermediate car sets, you can recreate the 10-car trains seen in the Tokyo metropolitan area, as well as the various train configurations that operated in different regions.
