This US postal cover is commemorating the launch of the NASA Space Shuttle STS-5 mission in 1982.  The cover was postmarked on November 11, 1982 at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.  The cover has a nice cachet noting the event.  It has been autographed by the four NASA astronauts on the flight – Vance Brand, Bob Overmyer, Joe Allen, and William Lenoir.  The item is in great condition.

STS-5 was the fifth NASA Space Shuttle mission and the fifth flight of the Space Shuttle Columbia. It launched on November 11, 1982, and landed five days later on November 16, 1982. STS-5 was the first Space Shuttle mission to deploy communications satellites into orbit, and the first officially "operational" Space Shuttle mission.

The crew was:  Vance Brand (born 1931), Bob Overmyer (1936-1996), Joe Allen (born in 1937), and William Lenoir (1939-2010).
