🌟1907 Jones C.S. Family English-made Hand-cranked Sewing Machine with Walnut Case, Manual, & Accessories
Here is a 1907 Jones C.S. Family English-made Hand-cranked Sewing Machine as supplied to Her Majesty Queen Alexandra S/N 165,619. This is an extremely rare find, especially here in the United States where hand-cranked sewing machines are much more rare than treadle machines. This particular sewing machine came from London, England some years ago. It is 119 years old, has its original case with key, the manual and several accessories. This machine is functional; However, it is in as-found condition and has not been cleaned, restored, or lubricated in any way. This model features the very handy stitch-reverse function (the lever is stiff and needs to be cleaned and lubricated, but it will move, though quite stiff). The machine is free-moving and it will sew as it is and while it is free-moving and cranks (and sews) just fine, the machine will benefit from a thorough flushing, cleaning and proper lubrication. The Jones models are known for their quality and durability, but this particular model is a point of company (and national) pride and was presented to Queen Alexandra by the Jones Sewing Machine Company. While there is no specific historical record of the exact date the Jones Company presented a machine to Queen Alexandra, it is a well-documented piece of sewing machine history.
This is a beautiful machine, and while it is complete and functional as is, it’s certainly a very worthy candidate for a full restoration.

The Jones Sewing Machine Company was a British manufacturer of sewing machines founded in 1860 by William Jones and Thomas Chadwick under the name Chadwick and Jones, which later became known as the Jones Sewing Machine Company. The company produced sewing machines for almost 100 years, before being acquired by Brother Industries in 1968.
The Royal Connection: Queen Alexandra (then Princess of Wales) frequently used Jones machines, particularly at technical schools she patronized.
The "CS" Machine: The iconic Jones Family C.S. (Cylinder Shuttle) model was introduced in 1893.
Royal Endorsement: Following her reliable use of the Jones CS machine, the company was granted a Royal Warrant and proudly carried the inscription "As Supplied to Her Majesty Queen Alexandra" on the shoulder of their machines for a number of years. 👸🏻
