A genuine Afghan Baluchi tribal rug, hand-knotted entirely in wool pile and foundation and measuring 90 x 56 cm. Small in format but rich in character, this is the kind of piece that serious rug buyers recognise immediately: an authentic Baluchi weaving with a camel-ground field, three stacked hooked diamond medallions, and a border system in deep burnt orange and near-black that is entirely characteristic of the Baluch tribal tradition from western Afghanistan and the Iranian borderlands.

The field is an warm ivory-camel tone, against which the three central medallions are drawn in terracotta, dark brown and black with hooked extensions and geometric surrounds a compositional format that has been woven by Baluchi and Baluchi-related tribal groups for generations. The multi-stripe border carries reciprocal geometric filler motifs in orange and dark brown throughout. Of particular note is the woven inscription panel in the lower border, rendered in Dari script most likely a weaver’s mark or date, a feature that adds both authenticity and individual provenance to the piece.

The reverse confirms wool warp-and-weft construction throughout this is an entirely wool piece, as expected from authentic Baluch tribal work. The label reads Hand Knotted Woollen Carpet, 100% Wool Pile.

Condition is fair to good and consistent with an aged tribal piece. The pile shows even wear across the field with some compression and thinning around the central medallion zone visible in the photographs and priced accordingly. The structure is fully intact with no holes, unravelling, or repairs. The fringe shows age and use. This rug has genuine tribal provenance and the honest patina of a piece that has lived it is not a decorative reproduction.
