Antique French 950 Silver Covered Sugar Bowl with Cobalt Blue Glass Liner

A highly decorative antique French sterling silver covered sugar bowl (sucrier) crafted in the exuberant Louis XV Revival taste and retaining its original fitted cobalt blue glass liner. The piece is constructed as a three-part service vessel comprising an ornate pierced silver outer frame, matching domed cover, and removable blue glass insert.

The silver body is richly executed with elaborate openwork scrolls, foliate flourishes, floral garlands, and Rococo cartouches, allowing the vibrant cobalt blue glass to be seen through the pierced decoration. Twin cast silver handles extend from opposing sides, each formed as elegant scrolling acanthus motifs. Raised upon four finely cast acanthus-leaf feet, the vessel possesses a lightness and refinement characteristic of high-quality French silverwork.

The domed cover features finely executed fluted ornament and is surmounted by an exceptional naturalistic finial modelled as a fully bloomed rose with accompanying leaves. The combination of the brilliant silver and deep cobalt blue glass creates a striking visual contrast, making the piece both functional and highly decorative.

The silver bears the French Minerva hallmark, confirming sterling silver of the superior French 950 standard.
