19th-century antique English blue and white transferware handleless tea cup. This exceptional piece features a deeply molded, paneled/faceted body that beautifully catches the light, elevating it far above standard smooth cups.
The Design:
The exterior boasts a highly detailed, crisp "Romantic Style" pastoral scene showcasing a grand classical villa or palace, a pair of figures strolling with a parasol, a boat drifting on the water, an ornate garden urn on a balustrade, and two elegant swans swimming near the base. The interior rim is adorned with a sophisticated, rich geometric and floral scroll border, complete with a matching miniature vignette of the classical scenery beautifully transfer-printed at the bottom of
Condition: There are absolutely no chips, cracks, hairlines, or repairs. The glaze retains a gorgeous, glossy shine. The underside exhibits authentic, early production traits including a raw, unglazed foot ring and light, historic blue stilt marks/kiln spots from the firing process—true hallmarks of its mid-1800s English origin.
