In 1945, the Missouri Pacific rebuilt hundreds of open hoppers into liem covered hoppers. They were used to transport powdered lime all across the USA. I saw some of these hoppers in records of freight train consists traveling along the Water Level Route. They were widely traveled cars and stood out in a train.
