This is a real deal original Muncie M-22 Rock Crusher 4 speed transmission. This transmission just came out of the estate of the man who bought this new. I bought it from the son along with a bunch of other factory high performance parts including 2 1967 Big Block Chevy 427 engines and another M22 Muncie. This transmission was purchased new from GM. The transmission was bolted to a bellhousing and appears to have been very lightly used if at all.  That said, I am selling it as used to be on the safe side.  Don't miss this real deal original M22 rockcrusher 4 speed transmission.

This transmission has a main case casting number of 3925660 as shown. The 3935660 case was used on Muncie transmission from later 1968-1969.  The assembly stamp reads P9H18C as shown. The date decodes as June 18th, 1969. The C at the end shows this is a true M-22 rock crusher heavy duty close ratio transmission. It is also stamped "CT9" and "A38998". The CT9 shows this was sold through the dealer parts counter or as a warranty replacement. The "A38998" is the serial number for this replacement transmission. There is no VIN stamped anywhere on this transmission.  The tailhousing is casting number 3857584. The side cover is casting number 3952648. The front bearing retainer is casting number 3915020. The input shaft has no grooves in it which signifies this is a M22 close ratio transmission. 


This transmission is in amazing unrestored condition as shown. It just came out of the estate of the man who bought it brand new along with many other factory and aftermarket performance parts that had been in cool, dry storage since the early 70's. This transmission looks to be totally original.  I gave the transmission a very light cleaning with brake cleaner while being careful to no alter the original finish. I see no breaks, modifications, or repairs to this transmission. All mounting ears are in great shape with no cracks or welds. All threads are in good shape with no helicoils or thread inserts. The internals are amazing with awesome engagement teeth and syncros.  This is simply an awesome factory high performance transmission that has survived the test of time. 

I removed the side cover from the transmission to inspect the internals. The internals look amazing with no signs of use as shown. The oil is clean and a bit gummy as expected from a transmission that has been in storage for well over 50 years. This is a very nice Muncie M22 close ratio 4 speed transmission that has never been abused or blown up.
