3.4" whole Ammonite fossil grouping from Madagascar. The bottom of the piece is cut flat on bottom, allowing the piece to stand nicely for display. Features a grouping of Ammonite fossils. The Ammonites show light opalescent rainbow color. Ammonites are an extinct group of marine animals related to the modern day squid. The last of its surviving lines disappeared with the dinosaurs 65 million years ago, although this Ammonite gang is from the Early Cretaceous about 100 million years ago. As it grew, it added newer and larger chambers to the open end of the spiral. Only the last and largest chamber was occupied by the living animal at any given moment. A top notch fossil specimen for display, collection and study from Madagascar.
