1964 Volkswagen Type 2 Bus – 23-Window Samba Tribute

Freshly restored (2024) Brazilian-built VW Bus, professionally converted to the iconic 23-window Samba style — the open-air, sun-and-curtains experience of a six-figure German Samba at a fraction of the price. Finished in classic two-tone turquoise and white with a tan folding ragtop and color-matched striped interior. Approximately 1,500 miles since restoration.

Full transparency up front: this is a Brazilian-production Kombi with a quality Samba-style conversion. The roof skylight windows and folding ragtop sunroof were installed as a conversion kit during the restoration. It is not a German-built factory 21/23-window — and it's priced accordingly. The Safari front windows are genuine pop-out Safari-style units. If you've wanted the Samba look and experience without the $150K+ entry ticket, this is the bus.

Honest Condition Report

I rate this bus a 7.5 out of 10. Remember, even when these were new in 1964 they weren't exactly precision machines. The restoration presents beautifully: strong gloss paint, fresh interior, everything works. Like any 60-year-old vehicle there are many very small details if you go looking with a magnifying glass — all of that is baked into the 7.5. Overall this is a great bus to own: drive it, show it, enjoy it immediately. Not a trailer queen, not a project.

The Story

This bus lives in a hangar at a fly-in airpark community in Ocala, Florida, alongside the owner's aircraft — it gets the same care the planes do. Imported from Brazil following its 2024 restoration, it has been adult-owned, hangar-kept, and driven sparingly on local cruises.
