VERY RARE GEORGE III ERA STERLING SILVER WINE BIN LABEL

A great example of antique wine-related Georgian silver, made by silversmith John James Keith.

Fully hallmarked I.J.K, George 3rd Head, Lion Passant for sterling, Leopard's Head for London.

The date letter is 'P' - the 'P' date letters in the Georgian period are all quite similar, but I think this is the 'P' for the year 1810.

This is a wine label for the bin in a wine cellar. The notch at the top is for how it would have been hung.

It is beautifully engraved 'GC - No 2'. GC would likely stand for 'Grand Cellar' or 'Great Cellar', with No 2 referring to bin 2 in the cellar (a bin in a wine cellar is a designated storage section or cubby that holds a specific batch or collection of wine).

The label measures approx. 4.5cm by 3.5cm. It weighs about 8.5g.

It is antique, over 200 years old, but is in remarkably good condition. There is a tiny bit of general wear, and a small ding on the bottom edge, but any wear is quite minor.

The hallmarks are still easy to read and the engraving sharp. A great wine collectible.

Please check out the photos as they best show condition and style.
