🔥═══════════════════════════════🔥 ⚡ HOT STUFF THE LITTLE DEVIL #72 ⚡ 🔥═══════════════════════════════🔥
Harvey Comics had a minor PR problem on their hands when they introduced a child devil as a kids' comic hero in 1957. A devil! For children! The pearl-clutching was immediate and enthusiastic. But Hot Stuff - created by artist Warren Kremer - had exactly zero interest in being scandalous. He was mischievous, warm-hearted, and deeply put-upon by elves, giants, and monsters who simply would not leave him alone. By 1966, he'd won over even the most skeptical of parents, and his bi-monthly adventures were a staple of the Harvey Comics lineup alongside Casper, Richie Rich, and Wendy.
This issue - #72, cover-dated June 1966 - features one of the more charming covers in the run: Hot Stuff face-to-face with Princess Charma, a little fairy girl bearing a gift, while two hearts (one flaming, one ordinary - make of that what you will) float between them. The interior delivers a full slate of adventures including a two-part castle story where Hot Stuff earns his keep by evicting a dining room full of monsters, a gag story about his very slow-on-the-uptake cousin, and a prose adventure in the very concerning "Tooti-Frooti Land," where the fruit is alive and has opinions. As a bonus, the centerfold spread is a full 1966 Harvey Comics calendar - a genuine time capsule from the year it was printed. This book would be a delight for Harvey Comics collectors, fans of Silver Age kids' comics, or anyone who grew up with the little red devil and his trusty trident. Fair warning: a previous owner named Dan Brescher felt the need to autograph Hot Stuff's midsection in pen - see condition notes below. If Dan is a celebrity, we're all in luck. If not, well, it adds character.
⚡ WHAT'S INSIDE: ✦ "Toot Toot" - a young elf's broken horn leads to a very bad morning for Hot Stuff ✦ "The Monsters of Creepwood Castle" / "A Clean Sweep" - two-part monster-eviction saga ✦ Dimwitted cousin gag story (relatable) ✦ "Hot Stuff in Tooti-Frooti Land" - prose story; the bananas have grievances ✦ Full 1966 Harvey Comics calendar centerfold spread ✦ Period ads including a Polaris Nuclear Submarine for $6.98 and Rocky & Bullwinkle hawking Cheerios
🔍 CONDITION: GD+ 2.5 Previous owner name ("Dan Brescher") written in pen across the front cover - clearly visible and disclosed in photos. Cover shows age toning, light soiling, and spine wear with a slight roll. Staples intact. Interior pages show typical age toning but colors remain bright and the book is complete with no missing pages. A solid reader copy with one very committed former fan.
