About Ernst Leitz Wetzlar: Ernst Leitz Wetzlar GmbH is the legendary German optics company that eventually became Leica. Wild Heerbrugg acquired the company in 1974 and it officially became Leica in 1986 — a name combining the first letters of "Leitz" and "camera." Leitz microscopes are legendary for their precision German craftsmanship, optical clarity, and durability. Reconditioned examples are still actively used in laboratories, universities, and research settings worldwide, and are equally prized by collectors and antique enthusiasts.

Note on the power cable: The illuminator power cable is damaged and needs replacing before the light source can be used. Replacement cables and lamp modules for Leitz microscopes are widely available from microscope parts suppliers and on eBay. The optical and mechanical components of the microscope are unaffected by the cable issue.
