This unit has been tested for working sound, and has undergone various maintenance and basic function checks including re-recording. The front panel and top are generally clean, and the interior is free of discoloration and tarnishing, indicating good working order.


Maintenance and preventative measures include:

① Replacement of three belts, including the tray belt; the capstan flat belt has been widened from 3mm to 5mm for improved stability (Photos 8, 9).

② Reinforcement of the pinch roller (this type is prone to plastic cracking due to aging and spring pressure, rendering re-recording impossible; reinforcement has been taken as a preventative measure (Photos 6, 7)).

③ Degreasing prevention measures for the control electromagnet (reinforced fixing due to occasional detachment).

④ Head demagnetization, tape speed adjustment, and cleaning of the belt drive and head area with anhydrous ethanol .

⑤ Glue application to moving parts and contact cleaner on the back terminals to remove tarnishing.


After maintenance, the tray opens/closes, playback, recording, fast forward, rewind, and auto-reverse all function correctly. The display is bright with no dead pixels, and there appears to be no sluggishness in the switch response due to age. (Not all functions, such as CD sync recording, have been tested.)


Maintenance and internal/external cleaning have been performed, and it is currently usable.
