Circa 1795 After the French Revolution, when the high heels of the aristocracy were banned, delicate flat soled slippers made of soft kid, velvet and satin remained in vogue for nearly half a century. These fabulous slippers, decorated with rosettes, pom-poms or bows continued to be a sign of social standing.
