"Lady Marlene was part of Gelmart Industries, a vast Philippines lingerie manufacturer whose clients include Playtex, Maidenform, Frederick’s of Hollywood, and major department stores. While pinning down Lady Marlene’s exact founding date is difficult; The Phillipine American Embroideries Company acquired Gelmart in 1960; my research places Lady Marlene’s origins around 1950.

What made Lady Marlene unusual; even by vintage standards; was its refusal to evolve. The brand produced essentially the same styles for decades.
