The face is dominated by an engraved view of the Tennessee State Capitol at center, an architectural vignette that gives the issue much of its distinctive character. At right is the oval portrait of Robert M. T. Hunter, Confederate Secretary of State and later Secretary of the Treasury, paired with a bold “10” protector. The design is framed by ornate lathework, intricate side panels, and finely executed denomination elements, while the red vertical “NOVEMBER 1863” overprint adds an especially attractive splash of color to the otherwise black-on-cream composition.
