Grammar and writing chapters alternate, giving students the chance to immediately apply what they’ve learned.
Each chapter begins with a helpful overview in the Teacher Edition that introduces the biblical worldview focus for the lesson, along with clear objectives, resources, and assessments for each lesson. Biblical worldview shaping statements offer guidance to help teachers to lead the class in understanding how the lesson aligns with biblical principles. Additionally, mentor texts are provided at the start of each grammar and research skills chapter to support learning and set the stage for the lessons.
Grammar chapters provide opportunities for teachers to model daily objectives, and writing chapters include opportunities to model different forms of writing, such as poetry, narratives, opinion pieces, and informational texts. Each modeling exercise includes step-by-step instructions for guiding students through the model to prepare them for independent writing.
Each writing chapter follows the five steps of the writing process—Plan, Draft, Revise, Proofread, and Publish. As students work through these steps, they will also explore age-appropriate writing traits while crafting various forms of writing, including poetry, narratives, opinion pieces, and informational texts.
Additional practice pages in the grammar chapters and “Write It Right!” pages of the writing chapters offer numerous opportunities for practice to improve retention. The Student Worktext also includes guided practice, independent practice, reviews, journal activities, and reflection pages, allowing students to apply grammar and writing skills to sentences, paragraphs, and writing projects.
