Dogon Door Lock Mali MATTER COLLECTION

The Dogon Door Lock from the Dogon tribe in Mali is a classic piece showcasing signs of extensive use. Crafted from two wooden pieces, it features a visible metal trim and a locking mechanism, complete with locking pins. Its surface is adorned with diamond-shaped incised markings, exhibiting a weathered patina that suggests its past use either as a household door lock or, more commonly, as a secure closure for a granary. Provenance: Matter Collection From the collection of Margie and Phil Matter. Margie lived in South Africa, and later she and her husband Phil opened a gallery in Tucson. Everything in this collection was in their home for more than thirty years. Africa Direct recently bought the collection; at 95, Margie wants to share the things she has loved so much.
