CHINESE YIXING WARE ZISHA CLAY TEAPOT with FROG LID, original box & tag

Yixing teapot, body measures 3.75” diameter and 3” high. Length from tip of spout and including handle is 5.75”. Includes the original box which is 5.5” x 5” x 3.5”.

Teapot is in new condition – it has always stored in the box and has never been used. The box has some foxing/discoloration to the light cloth inside and on the bottom (see photos).

Yixing teawares are prized because their unglazed surfaces which absorb traces of the beverage, creating a more complex flavor. For these reasons, Yixing teawares should be washed with water only, never using detergents. So much flavor is absorbed by vessels made with this clay that it is customary, so as to not confuse the flavors, to use one type of tea with one type of pot. Connoisseurs recommend using each tea vessel for one kind of tea (white, green, oolong, black, or puer) or even one variety of tea only.
