I am pleased to offer this old and original, A.C. Fairbanks Co. 5 string banjo to restore. I am not a player, but here is what I can tell you. Overall measures approximately 37" long. The hoop measures about 11 3/8" in diameter. The rim looks like it is 4 ply and measures about 10 3/4". There is some minor delamination, but stable and secure. There are 28 standard shoes, hooks and nuts plus 2 added for the metal strip that rests on the skin. I have never seen this feature on a banjo, but looks like it has been there all along. The tailpiece is a "Unique" Special. The skin needs to be replaced. The serial number on rim and dowel stick is 23706. The rim is stamped with what looks like a Dec. 30, 1890 patent date. The neck has 22 frets. Dimension from nut to 22nd fret is about 19 1/2". The neck will need to be glued towards the heel as shown. There is about 1 1/2" of binding loss at 19th to 21 st fret. One piece of diamond inlay is missing at the 7th fret. The fingerboard has heavy wear at the first 2 frets. The peghead veneer has cracks and a small piece missing. No tuner at 5th fret. This is a high-quality banjo, worthy of your effort. The photos are an integral part of my description. They will give an accurate representation and best tell the story. Kindly email any specific questions, comments or need for additional photos. I am happy to combine purchases to save you on shipping, as long as you wait for a combined shipping invoice. USPS mailing. The handling charge, if any, is merely for insurance. Thank You.
