Up for sale is a stunning Akai X-100D Reel to Reel Tape Recorder. This is a beautiful example of 1960s Japanese audio engineering, featuring the famous "Cross-Field" head system for superior high-frequency recording.
Recent Professional Restoration & Service
This machine has been meticulously dismantled and overhauled to bring it back to its best:
- Mechanical Overhaul: The unit was completely stripped down. All internal belts and pulleys have been cleaned and replaced where necessary to ensure smooth, stable tape transport.
- Electrical Restoration: Known "dried-out" vintage capacitors have been replaced to ensure stable circuitry and clear audio playback.
- 100% Functional: Unlike many vintage units, both audio channels are now fully working. It has been rigorously tested for Rewind (REW), Fast Forward (FFW), and Record functions. The sound quality is excellent—rich, warm, and clear. (Please see the video for a functional demonstration).
Cosmetic Condition:
This is a fantastic-looking machine. The faceplate, wood cabinetry, and toggles are in excellent vintage condition, making it a perfect centerpiece for any hifi setup or studio.
