LEVI'S 612 SLIM FIT - EXCEPTIONALLY RARE MODEL :

The 612 is one of Levi's most obscure Orange Tab model numbers. Unlike the 517 boot-cut or standard Orange Tab fits, the 612 was a limited-run slim-fit model primarily produced for European markets in the late 1970s-early 1980s. 

Very few examples exist in the wild - only a handful of 612s appear on global vintage platforms, and nearly all are worn/faded. Finding a deadstock pair with original tags is extraordinarily rare.

Production code breakdown (from inner tag: 311 6124 0380):

  • 311 = Factory code (matches waist button stamp) 
  • 612 = Model number (slim fit variant) 
  • 4 = Wash specification 
  • 0380 = March 1980 production date (46 years old)

ORANGE TAB HISTORY :

Launched 1969 as Levi's fashion-forward line - slimmer, more European fits than workwear-focused 501s. Orange Tab represented Levi's premium casual wear and was particularly popular in Europe through the 1970s-80s. Women's production from this era is significantly rarer than men's.

TALON 42 SIGNIFICANCE : 

TALON was America's premium zipper manufacturer. The TALON 42 is a heavy-duty model almost never found on Orange Tab jeans (far more common on 501s). Finding this on women's Orange Tab 612 is exceptionally rare - possibly a special UK production run.

DURA PLUS® PREMIUM FABRIC: 

Poly-cotton blend with Levi's Dura Plus® treatment for increased strength, controlled shrinkage, fewer wrinkles, and soft natural feel. This premium fabric technology was reserved for higher-quality lines in the late 1970s-1980s, combining polyester durability with cotton comfort.

CONDITION :

Deadstock/NWT - Never worn, good condition, exactly as they left the factory in 1980, except for a few storage pulls & threads that are loose here & there. Original swing tags, labels, and hardware intact. 

ORIGINAL FACTORY CREASE INTACT :

These retain their original 1980 factory fold crease - absolute proof of unworn, unwashed condition over 45 years. Unlike workwear-style 501s sold unfolded, the 612 was marketed as a dressier "lifestyle" jean and packaged with a sharp trouser-style crease for retail presentation. 

This factory crease is NOT Levi's Sta-Prest permanent crease technology (which used chemical treatment), but serves as unmistakable evidence of deadstock condition. The crease will relax with first wash, as intended.

HEMMING & ALTERATION OPTIONS :

While these W24 L35" proportions suit a very slender, tall silhouette, the slim cigarette-leg cut allows for professional hemming to a shorter length without compromising the 612's iconic shape. 

The straight slim silhouette from knee to hem means tailors can shorten the inseam while preserving the original trouser-style finish. This opens the piece to petite collectors (5'2"-5'6") who fit the W24 waist but require a 28"-32" inseam. 

For collectors: The original factory hem and crease remain intact as purchased.
