Officially entering service in 2010, the Yars was designed as a modern replacement for aging Soviet-era missiles like the R-36 and UR-100N, and as an enhancement of the single-warhead Topol-M . Design and Capabilities
The Yars is a three-stage, solid-fuel missile, which offers significant tactical advantages over older liquid-fuel systems. The defining feature of the RS-24 is its MIRV capability, which distinguishes it from its predecessor, the Topol-M.
