The oar lights up when you press the button or hit it on something. I could not get it to make any sounds. It will require 3 AA batteries to operate (not included). To save on shipping I will take a screw out of the handle to make the box shorted and send the paddle in 2 pieces. It will require you to place the 2 pieces back together and install the screw.
