Overview:
Arab-Byzantine war issue bronze follis struck in AD 634/635 during the final years of Heraclius’ reign. The obverse depicts Heraclius standing facing in military attire, holding a long cross, alongside Heraclius Constantine holding a globus cruciger; between their heads appears the letter K.
The reverse displays a large M denomination mark with regnal year 25 indicated and the letter N below, associated with a military mint likely operating at Neapolis. These issues were struck during the conflict that culminated shortly thereafter in the loss of the region following the Battle of Yarmouk.
Although more compact at 20 mm, this example retains strong historical character and belongs to an extremely rare and short-lived emergency series.
Authenticity Check:
Natural patina with correct early 7th-century bronze fabric. Visible traces of overstriking consistent with wartime production. No signs of casting or modern tooling.
Comparable Examples:
MIB X23; related examples noted in major Byzantine references.
Condition:
Very Fine. Clear imperial figures and bold large M reverse. Traces of overstrike visible. Compact flan with strong historical presence.
