Overview:
Early Islamic cast talismanic token bearing a dotted inscription likely referencing the name Muhammad within a crude circular arrangement. The irregular flan and informal execution distinguish this piece from official Abbasid coinage, indicating devotional or protective function rather than monetary circulation.
Such lead or billon tokens were produced throughout the early Abbasid period for personal religious use. These pieces often carried pious inscriptions, sacred names, or formulaic blessings and were worn or kept as amulets for spiritual protection.
The dotted inscription style and uniface format are consistent with early medieval Islamic talismanic objects.
Authenticity Check:
Surface exhibits heavy mineralization and burial accretions consistent with prolonged deposition. Fabric irregularities and casting characteristics align with early medieval production. No modern tooling or artificial aging observed.
