Overview
A large and commanding Hellenistic bronze appliqué in the form of a stylized human mask. The face is rendered with heavy-lidded almond eyes, strong nose, and rounded cheeks beneath an abstracted headdress or hair mass. The modeling is bold and deeply sculptural, not flat, giving the piece true dimensional presence.

The reverse retains its ancient mounting projection, confirming its use as a decorative fitting — likely attached to furniture, military equipment, chariot harness, or architectural elements. Such mask mounts were associated with theatrical imagery, protective symbolism, and elite decorative programs across the Hellenistic Eastern Mediterranean.

At 55 mm, this is a substantial and impressive example.

Authenticity Check
The bronze exhibits correct ancient mineralization, layered patina, and burial encrustation consistent with long-term ground recovery. Casting characteristics and wear patterns are fully consistent with Hellenistic bronze decorative mounts. No modern tool marks or artificial patination.
