Description:
This bronze fals was struck at Halab (Aleppo) in AH 604 (AD 1207/8) during the reign of al-Zahir Ghazi, son of Salah al-Din (Saladin) and ruler of Aleppo. Ayyubid coinage of this period reflects the political consolidation of northern Syria following the Crusader conflicts. Dated provincial issues such as this example are particularly desirable for their clear historical context. A solid medieval Islamic bronze from the Ayyubid era.
