In 1740, the Parish Church of Cheadle in Staffordshire was an older, smaller Anglican structure, also dedicated to St. Giles the Abbot.

This medieval or early modern building served as the Church of England parish church until it was considered too small for the growing population and was subsequently largely rebuilt in 1837-1838.
