  1. Safety First - Unplug the Refrigerator: Always disconnect the refrigerator from the power supply before performing any maintenance or testing to avoid electrical shock. | Turn Off Water Supply: Shut off the water supply to the refrigerator to prevent leaks or spills during testing.
  2. Inspect the Water Valve - Locate the Valve: The water valve is typically located at the back of the refrigerator, near the bottom, and connected to the water supply line. It may be behind a panel or access cover. | Visual Inspection: Check for any visible signs of damage, such as cracks, leaks, or corrosion on the valve and its connections.
  3. Test for Continuity (Electrical Check) - Access the Valve: Remove any panels or covers to access the water valve terminals. Ensure the refrigerator is still unplugged. | Disconnect Wires: Disconnect the wires from the valve terminals. This step ensures that you're testing the valve alone, not affected by any connected components. | Set Multimeter: Use a digital multimeter set to the ohms (Ω) setting to measure resistance. | Measure Continuity: Place the multimeter probes on the valve terminals. A functioning valve should show a reading of continuity (typically around 500-1500 ohms, but refer to the valve’s specifications for exact values). If there is no continuity (infinite resistance or no reading), the valve is likely faulty and needs replacement.
  4. Test Valve Operation (Mechanical Check) - Reconnect Water Supply: Reconnect the water supply line to the valve but do not reconnect the power yet. | Manual Activation: If the valve has a manual test feature or if you can simulate a call for water, do so. Some valves can be tested by turning the refrigerator’s water dispenser or ice maker on while observing the valve. | Check Water Flow: After reactivating the water supply, check if water flows through the valve to the dispenser or ice maker. If the valve does not open and let water through, it might be faulty.
  5.
