Up for sale is a lightly used, vintage Park Sherman lighter, commemorating the General Electric (G.E.) Missle And Space Vehicle Department. I was unable to determine an exact date of this rare lighter, but believe it is pre-1960's as it was produced in the Park Sherman Springfield, IL facility prior to its closure. That is consistent with the origins of the advertised GE Program (see below).
History:
The General Electric Missile and Space Vehicle Department originated in the early 1950s, as the Cold War accelerated U.S. investment in guided missile and space technology. Building on its extensive experience in aircraft engines, electronics, and advanced materials, General Electric became a key defense contractor supporting ballistic missile development and reentry vehicle engineering. The department played a significant role in programs such as ICBM nose cones and spacecraft reentry systems, helping shape early American space and missile capabilities. Its work laid important groundwork for later space exploration and national defense advancements during the Space Race era.
Condition:
This lighter has not been filled or tested and the flint will need replaced. It is in very good cosmetic condition with a near mirror like chrome finish on the surface under bright lighting.
