Overview:
Late Umayyad bronze fals featuring a lion walking left, surrounded by the legend la ilaha illa Allah wahdahu. The reverse bears muhammad rasul Allah in three lines within a double circle, with five interlaced annulets in the margin.

Animal types from the Umayyad period are considerably scarcer than the standard purely epigraphic issues. The lion motif is generally attributed to Tabariya (Tiberias) and reflects the regional artistic traditions that persisted alongside the fully Islamic reform coinage of the 8th century.

These figural Umayyad bronzes are especially popular with collectors due to their combination of Islamic inscriptions and symbolic imagery.
