For sale is a truly stunning pair of authentic antique cabinet plates produced by the prestigious Cauldon Ltd in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent. Dating back to the Edwardian / early George V period (circa 1905–1920), these plates are a magnificent example of British ceramic history.
Design & Pattern:
These plates feature the highly sought-after Pattern Number 9603, beautifully executed in the classic Imari style. The decoration is rich and vibrant, consisting of deep cobalt blue, burnt orange, and delicate pink peonies. Each plate is intricately finished with hand-painted gold gilding that remains in remarkably bright, crisp condition.
Condition Report:
Colours & Gilding: Both plates are in superb vintage condition. The colours remain vivid and have not faded over the last century. The gold leaf accents are exceptionally well-preserved, showing minimal to no signs of wear.
Glaze (Craquelure): Under close inspection and specific lighting, a very fine, delicate all-over glaze crazing (craquelure) is present. This is a natural characteristic of 100-year-old fine bone china and serves as a testament to its age and authenticity. The crazing is "clean" (no staining or discolouration), which is highly desirable for collectors.
Structural Integrity: No chips, no cracks, and no repairs. These plates have been cherished and kept in a display cabinet for most of their life.
Marks:
Backstamped with the printed "CAULDON England" mark (used between 1905-1920).
Hand-painted pattern number 9603 in iron red.
Impressed "CAULDON" mark visible on the reverse.
Dimensions: 23 cm
These plates would make a wonderful addition to any Imari collection or a sophisticated decorative touch for a period home.
