This is a rare, larger-scale 8" hand-carved wooden figurine of Sam Weller, one of Charles Dickens' most iconic characters. Carved by the world-renowned ANRI studios in Italy, this piece features incredible detail, from the texture of Sam's waistcoat to the concentrated expression on his face as he shines a boot.
Provenance & Family Heritage
This figurine comes with a documented history of single-family ownership. It has been in our family’s possession since 1947 and was passed down to me from my grandfather. A vintage handwritten label on the base further notes that the piece originally "Came from Ireland in 1927," making it nearly a century old.
Detailed Condition Report
This figurine is in very good vintage condition with a beautiful aged patina. As is common with authentic hand-carved wood of this age, there are a few minor "flea bite" chips where the natural wood grain shows through the finish:
Boot: A small chip on the toe of the black boot Sam is holding.
Hat Brim (Front): A tiny nick on the front edge of the top hat brim.
Hat Brim (Back): A small spot of finish loss on the rear edge of the hat brim.
