Antique Map Library
Maps of the Past started with a map library of nearly 300 original maps, a good portion of them Topo, City, Township, and County maps from locales throughout the state of California. We soon realized that there were thousands more gorgeous antique maps out there. The restored map library now consists of roughly 13,000 historical maps dating back to the sixteenth century. Our collection includes maps from the US Library of Congress, The David Rumsey Collection, and the US Geological Survey (including USGS topological and quad maps), as well as dozens of additional commercial and academic sources. Maps of the Past owes a special thank you to Mr. David Rumsey for his generosity in allowing us to use several of his map images in our library.
Historic Maps Restored
Nearly all original historic maps are laden with imperfections such as tears, fold lines, stains, holes, pencil markings, and rubber stamp markings, flaws that can detract from the overall appearance of the map. We have invested heavily in the finest equipment, computer software, and graphic artists available to correct each blemished area. We use two grades of media (paper) to print your maps, available as these two size options:
Glossy Photo " This is a very high quality, photo-grade, 8 mil thick paper. It is considered a matte finish, however is does have a slight sheen to it. It is a very nice paper and produces extremely attractive maps.
Matte Art This beautiful, acid-free, lignin-, and chlorine-free, fine art archival media has the look and feel of old world handmade paper, yet it produces sharp and accurate reproductions. The Giclee process combined with this paper creates magnificent historical maps guaranteed not to fade, yellow, or crack for more than 100 years. The quality of these maps is recognized by museums and galleries around the world.

Shipping and Handling
We offer shipping to the United States and its territories by UPS and USPS. Shipping charges are calculated by our web site software based on where your order will be shipped. Your shipping options and charges will be presented to you before your order is finalized.
We deliver your order as soon as practical. We will normally send your order to you in 1-2 business days unless there is a problem with your payment, in which case we will contact you to finalize the order.
Taxes
Our business is operated from Texas. All orders which are to be shipped within Texas will automatically show sales tax in the total which is figured at 8.25%. All other orders are sales tax free.
Returns and Exchanges

We are shipping for free so we really can't expect you to return the whole map back to us for a problem. A photo shot of a damaged shipment is fine for a replacement.
In all other cases, except getting the wrong item, we would like you to send an envelope sized strip of the printed map to us.
We can then see what the damage or problem is without your going to the post office.
In the case of a wrong map being shipped a picture or at least the name of the map sent will help us fix the mistake for the person that got your map.
In order to get a credit or new map, contact us via email, or call us, making sure to include identification of the item you purchased - sku number is best, including the order number and date.
Please state a reason for the problem. If you think the item was ugly, then tell us "I think it was ugly."
As soon as we get the email or notice, and if needed, the map strip we will credit your credit card in the amount previously charged and collected for the item. Please note that we do not cover the cost of return envelope shipping.
