ANTIQUE BUSTLE DRESS 1870S WALKING SUIT OUTFIT - 3-PIECE TRAINED - MUSEUM DEACCESSION


This is an attractive reception outfit of the 1870's period, that a mid to upper class woman would wear. A regal 1870's - 1875 deep navy blue and black velvet 3 piece in construction bustled reception outfit recently de-accessioned from the Rochester historical society museum in New York state. The outfit still retains it's original Museum ID catalog identification tag, inside each jacket with donor's name on tag.

 JACKET #1
The jacket displayed alone on dress form has 8 button closure that extends from the neck area to hip area, a small stand up collar, front button closure, hidden inner panel button holes.  The sleeve cuffs are accented with black cording and with two fabric covered buttons.
The sleeves and back with peplum are in a black velvet and the front bodice, collar and cuffs are a dark navy blue velvet.
Museum catalog identification numbers tags, and written inside as well as fabric label marked Roch. Historical Society.
Back of jacket is skillfully constructed accented with flowing split tails and with has a flared center back peplum accented with cording and 8 fabric covered buttons.
There is no underarm discoloration inside or outside and no splits or holes in the velvet.  Inside jacket is lined with black satin, no underarm discoloration, no fabric splitting. Petersham has a rip stabilized with a pin.

Measurement: Waist: 24",  Front Shoulder to hem line: 43", Across shoulder back 12", Sleeve length: 24".

Both jackets  are lined with black satin on the interior with inner petershams, no designer labels.  
                                         
               
JACKET #2                               
The jacket displayed with skirt on dress form has 14 front button closure that extends from the neck area to hip area, a small stand up collar.  The sleeve cuffs are accented with white ruffled lace and with three fabric covered buttons and black satin trailing ribbon ending with tassels with beads. The sleeves and stand up collar are in a dark navy blue and the bodice front and back, and cuffs are a black velvet. Black satin trailing ribbon ending with tassels with beads are found attached to front collar, middle of button closures, bottom of button closure and on both sleeve cuffs. Back of jacket is skillfully constructed accented with long flowing split tails with flowing black ribbon bows and accented with black 5" fringe trim with dangly beads.
Museum catalog identification numbers tags, and written inside as well as fabric label marked Roch. Historical Society.  

There is no underarm discoloration inside or outside and no splits or holes in the velvet. Front buttons have been moved and past position can be seen in velvet.
Two Front darts have been let out, but can be sewn back easily. Back tails seams have been let out, and easy fix. Missing sections of beaded fringe trim. Lace ruffle is loose on one cuff, easily fix. Black silk lining in sleeves are shredded. Satin lining in jacket is in very good condition.

MEASUREMENTS

JACKET:

Waist: 26",  Sleeve length with lace ruffles: 21-1/2", Across shoulder back: 12" ,
Front Shoulder to hem: 56", Back shoulder and train: 75", Fringe with beads: 5".

SKIRT
The top of skirt is a black taffeta with a double row of black and a row of dark navy blue velvet ruffles at hem line for a nice fall.  One side pocket.
 A lavish designed long back.   The skirt is not lined at top and at base with a black stiff gauzy like material.  No holes or stains or fabric splitting on outside velvet, inside lining at base, in good condition.  I find only a few minor problems with the skirt, one inner ruffle lining only has remnants left.

MEASUREMENTS: 
Waist:  25-1/2", Rear Train length 66", Front length waist band to hem line: 42".
 
CONDITION: 
The SKIRT is in very good condition, the BODICE is in very good condition.
