• End of an Era: Released in late 1982, this was one of the last major commercial 8-track tapes ever produced. By this time, 8-tracks were being phased out in favor of cassettes and the newly introduced compact disc.
• Limited Distribution: This version was a Columbia Record Club (CRC) edition. These were primarily distributed to mail-order subscribers rather than sold in general retail stores, making them significantly harder to find today than the vinyl or cassette versions.
• Packaging: It features the iconic "white suit" portrait and the catalog number QEA 38112
• The Error: Michael Jackson was deeply involved in the production and was technically a co-producer. He was reportedly very upset that his contribution wasn't acknowledged on the initial covers.
• The Fix: Epic Records quickly corrected this on all subsequent pressings, changing the text to include "Co-Produced by Michael Jackson".
• Collector Value: Because the 8-track format was already being phased out, only the very early batches of tapes carried this "error" credit. This makes this specific 8-track even more valuable to collectors.
