DETAILS: Original pinback button for Oscar De Priest an African American Congressman from Chicago. Circa 1940. Back of button has Gerahty & Company. Measures 1" inch. Rare.
NOTE: The dark black blur on the back of the button is due to the reflection of our DSR camera on the reflective surface. So that bidders have a better view of the backside we we have photographed the back of the pin at a slight angle.
Oscar Stanton De Priest (1871–1951) was an American politician and civil rights advocate from Chicago. A member of the Illinois Republican Party, he was the first African American to be elected to Congress in the 20th century. To oppose US entry into WWII the America First Committee formed in September of 1939 in DePriest's home city of Chicago. This litho button reflects his position as a "Committeeman".
