Description:
This coin celebrates diplomacy – an instrument for realizing national interests and conducting foreign policy through dialogue, negotiations, and the maintenance of a responsible balance between state principles and political realities. Diplomacy is an integral part of the state-building process. It secures Ukraine’s position within the global system of international relations, while bolstering its sovereignty, security, and international agency. The Ukrainian diplomatic tradition has evolved over centuries – from Cossack diplomatic missions and Hetman universals to the modern, multi-vector diplomacy of an independent state – grounded in the continuity of political thought, accountability for state decisions, and the capacity for strategic equilibrium.
Obverse: there is a stylized image of an olive branch – an ancient symbol of peace and good neighborliness. Under the composition are Ukraine’s small state coat-of-arms, the coin’s face value 5, the graphic symbol of the hryvnia, the legend УКРАЇНА (Ukraine), the coin’s issue year – 2025, and the mint mark of the NBU’s Banknote Printing and Minting Works.
The reverse symbolically portrays diplomacy as a distinct art of balance and interaction. Intertwining lines at the top of the composition convey the complexity of international relations, where every decision is a synergy of dialogue, compromise, and mutual responsibility. A triangle visually emphasizes the stability of the foundation of diplomatic activity. The central element of the composition is a trace drawing of the seal of the Zaporozhian Host from 1648–1649, serving as a reminder of the historical depth of the Ukrainian diplomatic tradition and its deep roots in the state-building practices of the past.
